We started our online life in March 2018 as a benefit corporation, when we introduced the Association to our early Members. Here is a brief review of how the Association has grown in its first 9 months of operation.
This month, December, we broke our 1M visits mark by over 20,000 visitors. Today AFSBI has 1,239 Members and 4,271 Subscribers. Our members and subscribers are a tightly focused group heavily involved with simulation and flight training. Over 58% of our Members have been involved in flight simulation for longer than 5 years. About 42% of our Member’s base has a pilot certificate, as shown below. Members include flight schools and simulator manufacturers, sim users and individuals generally interested in flight simulation. Our monthly Newsletters reach over 2,000 Flight Schools and Aviation Colleges in the US and an additional 700+ worldwide to 103 countries. About 1,000 subscribers are professional in the flight simulation industry and the balance is made up by people interested in flight simulation for personal use or flight training and proficiency. The open rate on the newsletters surged way above industry standard, while maintaining a great click rate.
During the course of 2018, we had the opportunity to participate in a number of events, and we reported from all of them. FlighSim-Expo, FlighSimCon, Oshkosh AirVenture, FSWeekend, EATS, I/ITSEC. During this period we published over 100 posts on the site and many more on our social media channels.
We started our YouTube channel a month ago, in mid-November, posting 30 videos. So far we have 300 YouTube subscribers and over a thousand views. Our social media presence grew leaps and bounds on Facebook and Instagram since we started posting regularly 3 months ago in September. Here are some fun numbers: we have 747 followers on Facebook (gotta love that number!) but we are adding followers everyday and we are hoping to break the 777 by the end of the Xmas week. Our Instagram reach this second week of December 2018 alone exceeded 25,000, and our posts have been liked more than 10,000 times.
We maintain a growing comparison list of ATDs in production today and with the help of our Members we find and add new ones each month. See the interactive list here. This allow users to quickly glance and organize the list by price or features. We also update a list of G1000 simulator avionics here. In 2018 we reviewed fixed wings and rotary simulators from major manufacturers, and some of our members reviewed products and software. Our editorial team is now in full swing posting and preparing newsletters. We have also made progress with our Directory, now listing over 300 simulator products and services.
We couldn’t have done any of this without the support of our members, followers, and subscribers. From all of us at AFSBI a very heartfelt thank you and we look forward to bringing you more of everything in the New Year and meeting you at the 2019 upcoming events!
