Description:

In the early months of 1999 there were rumblings of discontent from a number of pilots in the British arm of the virtual airline Noble Air. After much discussion, it was decided that little change was going to occur that might improve the situation and these pilots broke away to form a new online entity.

In the latter half of February 1999, a new virtual airline appeared on the internet called Knight Air. Split into four hubs, Knight Air offered members a new concept in virtual airline simulation. Unlike the other virtual airlines in existence at that time, Knight Air was committed to allowing flexibility to their pilots by an unrestricted schedule system and no formal skill assessment as part of the joining criteria.

Each hub had a Hub Captain and Assistant Hub Captain to ensure that new pilots were welcomed and encouraged during their virtual career and had responsibility for maintaining their Hub flight schedules and Hours Reports from individual members.

Knight Air continued to grow and became a very popular virtual airline with an active forum community and pilots flying a huge number of flights.  As the website developed, the fleet of aircraft was expanded and upgraded with a new livery introduced in 2003.

In 2006, the Knight Air website was given another new look reflecting the current trends and technologies available to web design and was moved onto a larger domain. This, although nobody could have foreseen at the time, proved to be a disastrous move for the airline.

During the summer of 2006 the Knight Air website, along with most of the files and data, was lost when the host agent shut down their websites. Despite negotiations to restore the virtual airline website, it was some 8 months before Knight Air resurfaced on a completely new server.

By this time, most of the members had come to the conclusion that Knight Air was lost and had joined other virtual airlines.  Many of these were never to return even after the website was restored in March 2007.

The airline continued to struggle along until 2012 where the decision was made to shut the airline down. In January 2017, after many months of discussion, it was decided to work on a relaunch of the airline which took place in February 2018.
